Notes on Egyptian Marriage Chiefly in the Ptolemaic Period

"It was long held that the Demotic documents called "marriage settlements" had the legal effect of bringing the marital relation into existence. This idea was conclusively refuted by Junker, whose view was accepted and reinforced with further evidence by Boak. However, papyrologists have generally neither appreciated the strength nor the significance of Junker's position. This volume is intended partly to support Junker’s argument and partly to show how certain classes of documents must be reinterpreted in the light of his results"
